Coach’s Report – Rnd 3 – Tweed Heads 30/03/2009
What a weekend of football for the Comets and all involved. For the first time ever we had all three Comets grades win. With the 16’s beating Wide Bay North 36-10 and the 18s running home winners 36-18 congratulations must go to Graeme, Steve and all the coaching staff on the success of the trip which gained 5 points each. Both teams are now in contention for the final series to be held in Brisbane. This would be a great way for the inaugural season of this comp to end with both teams to be in with a finals chance – just shows what talent we have in our region that hopefully will now stay and play here.
This week saw a few boys face some old demons playing against a former coach and staff. It was pleasing to see our boys complete the task set, 2 points. Tweed had brought a side scattered with NRL experience and an attacking prowess to rival their feeder club Titans. The analysis work that we did during the week paid off and Tweed played exactly as we expected through the middle and attacking edges. This team could be one of the late runners in this years comp with more continuity being the catch phrase.
To our credit, the second half defensive effort was excellent with the penalty count favouring Tweed slightly 14 to 5. We had concentrated on defence throughout the week, making sure that a Wynnum would not happen again. Although the score was in our favour we put ourselves under far too much pressure playing some dumb footy with which a few of the lads agreed. I can’t wait until we put in an effort of 80 mins.
This weekend playing Redcliffe away – What a great chance to make some history and win at Dolphin Oval on a Sunday arvo. Thanks for all the support we are receiving. The boys and I truly appreciate it.
