Comets last minute horror….. 23/03/2009

The Comets went to Wynnum on Saturday full of spring in the step having disposed of a strong Souths Logan outfit at home a week earlier. The game was set to be a big one in front of a vocal Saturday night crowd led by the infamous chook pen. The first half was one dominated by the home side with a mountain of possession going the Seagulls way but to the Comets credit the scores would be locked at 12 all going into the break. The second half was fought with a lot of the same venom as both sides went tit for tat leaving Wynnum leading right until the last 5 minutes. This  would be a period that may come back to bite the Comets when Nat Bowman orchestrated a beautiful try to put the Comets in the lead with 2 minutes remaining. From the ensuing kickoff the ball was spilt and the home side along with the chook pen went up a peg and scored out wide to secure a 2 point victory and an important 2 competition points for the Seagulls. Although there were no real standouts for the Comets Aaron Summers put his hand up again as did Tommy Hewitt at the back. Improved performances from Ian Webster and Guy Williams were also a plus for the Comets. We’d like to take this opportunity to thankl some our new an loyal sponsors for 2009.
