Comets act up for TV clash 28/04/2009
The Rockhampton Leagues Club Comets showed they are genuine finals material in 2009 disposing of Easts live on ABC television on the weekend. With 3 players out through injury the Comets were bolstered by the inclusion of Broncos enforcer Dave Taylor for the clash.
The game started like a dream for the Comets racing to an 18 nil lead, only to have it wilted away just before half time with the score showing 18 – 10. PJ Marsh and Taylor showed their class in the early exchanges helping the Comets control the match. Just after half time the Tigers scored to bring them to within 2 points but that would be as close as they would get, the Comets running home 30 – 20 winners and a record 5 straight wins.
Although the Comets finished in front there were no real standouts with the whole side chipping in when it was needed. Alan Rothery was again solid as was Junior Auru and Tyron Haynes out wide. The Comets can look forward to getting Tommy Hewitt back as well as Aaron Summers from injury for the big clash with Mackay at Browne park this weekend.
