Coaches Report – Rnd 9 – Sunshine Coast 13/05/2009
The weekend’s game was one out of the box for the Comets. We started the game well when we scored under posts within three minutes of the kick-off, and that was the last we saw of the ball pretty much until the second half when the score was 32-12. During this period, we seemed to always be on the back foot and were leaking points like a sinking boat. The comeback of the round started with 14 mins left on the clock. With the score at 32-18, we started to gain some momentum, and a penalty at a very crucial time cost Sunny Coast the match when Junior Auru dotted down nearly on the sideline paint. This took us out to a 34-32 lead with Nat missing the conversion and still 54 seconds on the clock. My thoughts were please not another Wynnum decider.
Three players that really stood up for us were the two front rowers Aaron and Dave, and our centre/back rower Tyron Haynes. The Comets this week showed character a word that I picked up in the change room after the game. It is also a word that we cannot get use to.
This week’s task is to cement our home record and the front running spot with an 80 min performance. The Northern Pride a team that have hit some form and we are looking forward to the test.
