Comets ‘record streak’ continues….. 05/05/2009
The Rockhampton Leagues Club Central Queensland Comets set a new benchmark on the weekend with a record sixth straight victory to share top spot with reigning premiers Souths Logan in this years Qld Cup.
Heading into the match against Mackay as decisive favourites the Comets didn’t disappoint leading from the opening bell and going on to post a record 50 – 6 victory that had all of the Browne Park crowd in full song. The first half was all the home sides as they raced out to an 18 nil lead only to give up a four pointer just before the break. Nat Bowman was at his brilliant best creating opportunities for his troops as well as himself in a display that is sure to secure him a rep jersey.
The Cutters had no answers for the questions being asked by the Comets and the second half would be no different. The Comets racked up 32 unanswered points in what most were calling a perfect second half. The home side welcomed back tough prop Aaron Summers from injury who combined with Broncos forward Dave Taylor in a clinical display up front. Debutant fullback Patrick Fray got of to an uneasy start dropping his first high ball of the night only to forget his mistake and march on with a good effort from the back. The Comets best came from all over the park with the majority of the side putting their hand up to get the job done. Nat Bowman collected the Webbers Retravision Man of the Match award with his best game of the season. Broncos pair Dave Taylor and PJ Marsh are surely only weeks away from a recall to the NRL with dominant displays for the home side.
The Comets now travel south to the sugar city Bundaberg, to take on new league comers the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles.
We would like to thank our Major sponsors PCD Steel Processing, Mitsubishi Motors and the Rockhampton Leagues club for their continued support.
