Coach’s Report – Rnd 17 – Norths Devils 20/07/2009
The old saying, a game of two halves was the mail in Bilo on Saturday afternoon. The North’s Devils turned up ready to play some footy with the two points set in their sights. North’s played some open flowing footy with those 50-50 calls and the oval shaped ball just seemed to bounce their way in the first stanza of the match. We had a few chances at their line but they were able to repel us – then it felt as if that North’s would make 90 metres and be attacking on line. North’s had the run of position and their completion rate was superior hence them leading into halftime.
We spoke in the dressing rooms about getting our defence right, and our shape off the ball. These two things lacked in the first period and were the key to winning this game. With Nat Bowman not taking the field in the second half, we had a reshuffle of personal to accommodate the loss of our attacking flair. The players all rolled there sleeves up and had a dig, defensively were very good not letting a point in the second half. Shape on and off the ball was better which created more opportunities for players out wide. The second half was much more pleasing with our lad’s football back to something like the first ten rounds.
Looking forward to this weeks clash against the East Tigers, it is one game that tends to be a close match, history would stay. Playing at Browne park I’m sure that our home support will be the telling factor to send the Tigers back to Brisbane with their tails between their legs.
