Coachs Report – Rnd 19 – Mackay 04/08/2009

With the Comets first piece of silver wear for 09, the Meng Shield from the Mackay Cutters, you would have thought the bus ride home would be a happy place. Quite the opposite – the boys were pleased to win but were disappointed with there performance. Our execution was not the best. We had 4or 5 chances to score in the first part of the half and did not convert them into points. Our defence was solid in stages then could look quite brittle in crucial parts of the field. Mackay had a mixed game dropping a lot of ball and kicking on the second tackle 2 to 3 times which was a big pressure release for our boys.

The squad, although tired bruised and sore still got to bellow out our team song with another victory all be it ugly but still did our job of bringing home the points that matter. Injuries were probably the only other bugbear for me. Marc Fickling came from the field with his ankle playing up, Mick Esdale also re-injuring his foot and Gerard Parle with a groin strain, which he carried in from the warm up. We will be monitoring these blokes this week to see whether they’re available for the clash against fourth placed Sunny Coast.
