Mapp’s road to recovery 30/03/2010
THREE impressive performances off the interchange bench have earned Rockhampton Leagues Club Comets front rower Darren Mapp his first start this season in the Intrust Super Queensland Cup.
After receiving off-season surgery, Comets coach Wayne Barnett thought that it would be a good idea to ease Mapp back into his football.
“Due to his recovery he’s started off the bench for us in our first three games and has been doing a good job for the side,” Barnett said.
“I feel as though he is ready to start the match.”
The ball-playing front rower replaces the fiery Alan Rothery in the starting side.
Comets coach Wayne Barnett said Rothery had been moved to the bench due to disciplinary reasons.
“Late in the match against the Tigers he was instructed to come off the field and refused to,” he said.
“He needs to learn that instructions are sent out for a reason.”
In the only other change to the side that was thumped by the Tigers on the weekend, Guy Williams replaces Ben Hunt at five-eighth.
Hunt has been named in the Broncos NRL side for their match against the Roosters on Friday night.
