Comets disappointing in western dual 11/04/2010

ANOTHER disappointing performance by the Rockhampton Leagues Club Comets has handed the Central Queensland side their third consecutive loss for the season.

Facing the Norths Devils in Emerald without regulars Dallas Williams, Chris Beasley and Aaron Summers the Comets were outclassed by a clinical Devils outfit.

To go with the loss centre Karl Johnson is likely to miss next weekend’s match against the Burleigh Bears after suffering a suspected torn pectoral muscle.

The Emerald locals witnessed a dominant display from the Devils that included try scoring doubles to Rockhampton junior Javarn White and wingers Daniel Ogden and Gideon Mzembe.

The Devils scored nine tries in the 48 to 8 win to continue their undefeated start to the season.

An early try to White off a Shane Perry bomb put the Devils in the box seat from the start.

From there, the Brisbane-based side starved the Comets of possession and field position and always looked in control.

Next weekend the Comets take on the Burleigh Bears at the Gold Coast’s Pizzey Park in a match that will see both sides desperate to get their seasons back on track after suffering big losses in round 5 of the Intrust Super Queensland Cup.

Norths Devils 48 (Javarn White 2, Daniel Ogden 2, Gideon Mzembe 2, Joseph Davui, Jack Reed, Josh McGuire tries, Troyden Watene 6 goals) def. Central Comets 8 (Pat Fray, Junior Auru tries)
