Late tries hand Comets back-to-back losses 05/04/2010

Comets centre Josh Bishop versus Redcliffe

Comets centre Josh Bishop looks to pass in the Comets' loss to the Redcliffe Dolphins on the weekend

TWO tries to the Redcliffe Dolphins just minutes from the final siren have given the Comets back to back losses for the first time this season.

After leading the match mid-way through the second half, the Comets allowed the Dolphins back into the match through some uncharacteristic errors and penalties.

However, the Comets were behind the eight-ball from the beginning of the match after hooker Ian Webster kicked the ball dead on the full from the starting kick-off.

From the resulting penalty, former Comets fullback Ryan Cullen opened the Dolphins scoring account after pouncing on a neat kick from halfback Mick Roberts.

In typical fashion, the Comets squared the match up soon after with a try to centre Josh Bishop.

Both sides traded blows throughout the first half and going into half-time the scores were locked at 16-all.

The Dolphins were the first side to crack during the second half when Comets front rower Alan Rothery, who was impressive all day, crashed over.

Halfback Matt Minto converted and the Comets led the Dolphins 22-16.

Late in the second half Redcliffe centre Paul Ivan’s second try for the day squared the scores up with only minutes remaining.

In the following set, Broncos-contracted centre Josh Hoffman strolled through some tired Comets defense before linking up with interchange back Tim Yee who crossed the try line to seal the win.

Winger Liam Georgetown’s conversion was successful and the Dolphins ran out eventual winners, 28-22.
