The CQ Comets are back on track after defeating Ipswich Jets by 15-14 in a sputtering display which combined everything the team has produced this year with some moments of brilliance mixed with errors in vital areas.
The Comets’ opening was everything any coach would ask of a side with Nathan Barraclough hoisting the ball high into the air at the end of the first set. Continue Reading »

ON the eve of the Rockhampton Leagues Club Comets’ most important match of the season coach Wayne Barnett has dropped a bombshell.

2009 Queensland Residents representative Aaron Summers and Queensland Country centre Karl Johnson have both been left out of the Comets side for their round 11 match against the Ipswich Jets at Browne Park tomorrow night.
Barnett believes that both players have shown that they are capable of excelling at this level but need to figure out if they truly want to play for the Comets.

Comets thrashed by Tweed Heads 25/05/2010
CQ COMETS chief executive Scott Minto was not offering any excuses after Saturday’s 36-0 thrashing at the hands of Tweed Heads.
The win over Wynnum Manly and a solid display when losing to Souths Logan had given the Comets the confidence to think they could collect two competition points on their travels.
Eleven minutes into the game came the reality it was not going to happen as the home team raced away to a 20-0 lead. Continue Reading »

Against a very compact and tidy Logan, the Comets had the match in their grasp before being sunk by two hit-and-hope kicks they failed to deal with.
To Logan’s credit the kicks were directed away from full back Junior Auru who successfully dealt with anything that came his way, but nevertheless supporters left the ground feeling it was two points the Comets had lost rather than the Magpies had earned.
Throughout the match the Comets looked the more creative football team, but the crucial difference between the sides was that when the home side made an error they paid dearly. Continue Reading »
Beasley injury makes way for Summers return 11/05/2010
The only change to the Rockhampton Leagues Club Comets side that blitzed the Wynnum Manly Seagulls on the weekend is a forced one.

Aaron Summers, who missed the weekend’s game with a blood infection, will replace Chris Beasley on the interchange bench.
Beasley suffered a broken jaw in the Comets 30-6 win on Saturday afternoon and looks like missing the rest of the season but is hopeful of returning before season end.
Nathan Barraclough, who was impressive on debut, retains the number 6 jersey and will once again be partnered with co-captain Marc Fickling in the halves. Continue Reading »
Beasley injured in Comets win 11/05/2010
“Chris couldn’t buy a game of football at the minute,” was the assessment of CQ Comets coach Wayne Barnett after the return from injury of star recruit Chris Beasley ended before it really began.

On an otherwise perfect afternoon, Beasley had barely got into his rhythm after returning to the team following a fracture to an eye socket before he was back in the sheds with an injury that is likely to end his season.
“He has broken his jaw,” Barnett said.
While a massive blow to Beasley and the Comets, it was the only cloud over the CQ team on an otherwise magic afternoon, when the Comets turned the form books upside down by trouncing Wynnum Manly 30-6 on their home soil. Continue Reading »
Classy Comets blitz Seagulls 11/05/2010
THE Central Comets snapped a five-match losing streak in the Intrust Super Cup today with a 30-6 thrashing of the Wynnum Manly Seagulls at BMD Kougari Oval.

Displaying a level of intensity and commitment not seen since their victory over the Sunshine Coast in round two, the Comets made the home team look like a second-rate outfit with a quality performance that will make rival sides sit up and take notice.
The Comets had Wynnum Manly rattled after just 10 minutes, with tries from Ian Webster and Josh Bishop opening up a 10-0 lead. Continue Reading »
